Christian Weikop

Christian Weikop is currently a visiting Lecturer at University of Edinburgh. He worked as a Leverhulme Research Fellow at the University of Sussex, where he taught courses on twentieth-century art and culture. He received his PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2005 for his dissertation on the first German Expressionist group, Brücke. His current research examines those German artists who have most emphatically attempted to deal with issues of cultural nationalism, and in this process he analyses the critical interface between Expressionism, Dada and Neo-Expressionism. He organized the international Brücke centenary conference at Sussex in 2005, and he regularly writes for the Burlington Magazine, Art History and the Art Book. Christian will will be responsible for cultural visits in Berlin that will complement the curriculum.
